  • Laryngological workshop concerning a new method of snoring treatment took place at LUX MED hospital. The presented Pillar technique consists in the introduction of between three and five thin polyester inserts into the soft palate. These inserts stiffen the palate, thus diminishing tissue vibration, which has a positive effect on snoring reduction. The treatment is conducted under local anesthesia and it takes up to 30 minutes.   • The first leg-lengthening surgery in a child with the use of an Ilizarov fixator was performed at the LUX MED hospital in April. The technique involves a cut (or a fracture) through the bone without breaking the continuity of the periosteum, with subsequent stepwise drawing of the resulted bone fragments apart using a special scaffolding. Telescopically connected external rings are gradually extended as the bone grows. The pace of extending depends on individual course of treatment.
